Picasso Masks

  1. Picasso Boy and Girl face Mask, Cubist Mask
  2. Picasso Boy face Mask, Cubist Mask
  3. Picasso Girl's face Mask No1, Cubist Mask
These are my new range of ceramics, the inspiration came from Picasso's colourful paintings.

They beautifully capture the mood of the Cubist movement in the early 1900s.

I shaped and coloured these masks by hand from creamy white earthenware clay which renders the pieces this creamy look after the final firing at 1160 desgrees Centigrade. No molds were used.

I used a freehand painting style using underglaze colours, and added some 3D elements onto themasks' surfaces. The Masks then were given two coats of clear glaze to seal in and liven the colours.

These Masks can be displayed on a horizontal surface, or as they were intended, they can be hung. There are ceramic holes at the back with some wire. they lie flat on the surface as I have put a little edge to keep the object flat when hung. This means that the mask is not unevenly  "protruding".

They are now sold, but you can find similar ones at Potters, Bristol on Park Row at the Christmas Steps Arts Quarter, Bristol.
